Dance Festival

EVERYBODY DANCE NOW

In Greece we don’t just dance with our feet, we dance with our heart!

The Grecotel Riviera Olympia hosts Dance Festival 2017—a week of thematic classes by thirteen top Greek & International professionals and a closing party to showcase your moves.

Revel in the unique ambience of its amazing resort set on a 500-acre wooded estate along two kilometers of sandy beach lapped by the Ionian Sea. Learn new dances or perfect your steps in master classes offered in Latin international, Ballroom, salsa, street Latin, hip hop and r&b, oriental, jazz funk, contemporary, and tango Argentino.

Start with a sultry salsa at sunset and end with a barefoot tango dip on the beach at dawn! You’ll want to dance the night away after learning all the moves at the Riviera Olympia Dance Festival. Join us on the ballroom floor where we’ve organized thematic classes by thirteen top Greek & International professional dancers in ten styles, from the bachata to the waltz, from beginners to master class. Surrender to the music and express yourself through movement—and indulge your favorite Hollywood musical fantasies, whether flowing style of Fred Astaire or the edgier jazz dance and hip hop styles on Fame. We can’t guarantee that you’ll be ready for Broadway, but we can promise you’ll have fun.

The Riviera Olympia is the perfect backdrop for a dance festival, with its Hollywood-set ambience. The programme combines classes with themed evenings inspired by the history and origin of dances—and, of course, cinema! Latin, jazz, Oriental, with drinks and food to match the mood. And since we’re in Greece, we’d be remiss if we didn’t include a Greek night to bring out your inner Zorba. The Riviera Olympia Dance Festival ends with a closing party, where you and all our guests can show off your new moves.

The Dance Festival is FREE of charge for all guests.

DANCES TO EXPLORE

Bachata originated in the Dominican Republic and its popularity rivaled the bolero in the 1960s. It’s intense and intimate, with soft hip movements.

Jazz dance is a crossover style, with elements drawn from countries where jazz draws its roots.

Rumba has become a generic term for Latin dancing, but it’s a very specific form that originated in Cuba.
Contemporary dance isn’t just those moves everyone makes on the disco floor. It is a very expressive and fluid form that combines jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet.

Hip Hop is a street dance style with moves like breaking, popping, and locking that have evolved since the 1970s into increasingly more difficult sets.

Waltzing isn’t just for the stately ballrooms of the 18th-century Vienna. It’s become the international standard for formal affairs and is perfect for showing off a flowing gown.
The International tango is a standardized version of this Latin American dance that is used in dance competitions and is especially popular in Europe. It’s more structured than the fiery Argentine tango with its more dramatic and sharper movements.

Oriental dance is more widely referred to as belly dancing—but there’s a lot more than shimmying going on. It’s torso-driven with emphasis on the hips, yet is more relaxed than Western dance forms. It’s not only an excellent workout but is guaranteed to add some spice to your personal moments.
